Caloy  > Trips, travels and gimmicks > Palawan [Nov.2001]
We threw caution to the wind and hopped on board a plane to Puerto Princessa. Not knowing what to expect. It did make for a great adventure!

It proved to be a different adventure, with different sceneries and experiences. :)

Caloy > When we stepped off the airport, we were mobbed by tricycles drivers trying to get people to take them for the trip to the hotel.

At first we were so surprised why these guys are fighting tooth and nail for us to pick them. But when we picked two tricycle drivers to take us to the hotel, we finally knew why. They offered us their services during our stay. And what are these services? Well read on and you will find out.

Talk about Filipino ingenuity, these guys supplement their meager income as tricycle drivers and offer tours for small groups. Honestly, they are quite adept at it and as entertaining as the true blue tourist guides.
Caloy > They took us to Palawan Airport Village hotel. Honestly when we saw where they were taking us, we were at first dismayed. It looked like a not so good place to stay up front. But when we payed for our room, wow! It really is better than good for what we paid for it. For like 200 pesos a day per person, we got two twin share rooms, one for the boys and the other for the girls. It was airconditioned and it even had cable. Now that's what I call a bargain!
Caloy > I really thought the girl with the baby was cute. Unfortunately she was already married at the tender age of 18!
Caloy > Another picture of them. After this picture, we went to our rooms, rested a bit and came out for dinner.

We thought to just walk around and find a good restuarant. My previous visit to Puerto Princessa, I remembered there was still a Vietnamese Asylum. Where Vietnamese came to our country for political asylum from their communist governtment.

Though this asylum is already gone when I came back, there were still a lot of vietnamese restaurants around that I figured that some of them were maybe lucky enough to stay. :)
Caloy > We ate at Pho's Vietnamese Restaurant and had noodles and french bread for dinner. Their bowls were large and filling.

After eating dinner, we made our way back to our hotel to call it a night.
Caloy > Another picture of the restaurant's sign
Caloy > Back to our hotel, we just stayed in, and watched TV until we called it a night. The next day, our enterprising tricycle drivers arrived to take us to the Crocodile Farm.
Caloy > Our 2nd day in Palawan, Our "tourist guides" took us on a 1 hour (or was that a 2 hour) ride to the Crocodile farm.
Caloy > Here's a small museum inside the farm. This jaws were really impressive. The picture didn't give any justice on how awesome these jaws were.
